The Structure Plan demonstrates principles for urban renewal based on integration of existing public infrastructure with upgrading of commercial centres along transport nodes. The project illustrates a number of cost effective demonstration examples, which form a basis for a sustainable urban renewal program based on the principals of urban transit nodes and mixed use.

Villages that were explored to meet the anticipated population growth include Long Jetty, East Gosford, Budgewoi and Niagara Park on the NSW Central Coast. Community consultation included presentation of the proposals with over 100 stakeholders including State Government, Local Government and political and business leaders. Consultation was also undertaken in forums with smaller working groups.

 

The project received wide support amongst community and business groups and it received the award for best Professional Consultancy at the NSW UDIA Awards for Excellence.
