Country Residence

Mid Coast NSW

A single level rural residence designed and appropriately placed within its pastoral lands setting. The siting of the residence takes advantage of the rural views including the surrounding hilltops of the Mid North Coast of NSW. The design includes formal and informal landscape treatments that correspond with both the dwelling and character of the surrounding rural landscape.

The architecture and the landscape architecture were integral in the design to bring views into the house and connect the outdoor with the indoor areas. A formal garden provides an outdoor room, which also links the internal living areas to the swimming pool and barbecue facilities. An orchard and herb garden adjoin the kitchen to enhance the experience for the guests.

Angled, stone-clad entry walls flank a gated entry and an avenue of Oak trees provide a link to the residence that also includes expansive views over the countryside to the north. A north-south axis is a central organising element for an entry reflection pool and a rear garden courtyard arbour and pond. Informal planting of mixed, native local species provides visual buffering, shade and potential habitat in the surrounding landscape.

Other landscape components include tennis court, informal open lawn areas and stone retaining walls.
