Tabulam Bridge

Tabulam Bridge forms part of the Bruxner Highway and defines the western entry to the rural village of Tabulam on the eastern banks of the Clarence River in northern NSW. The existing bridge is a heritage listed structure however requires replacement as part of the Roads and Maritime’s Timber Truss Bridge Conservation Strategy.

Various urban and landscape design studies have been undertaken to determine appropriate measures for the new bridge and interpretation of the existing bridge including:

  • Preliminary Landscape character and visual impact assessment of the study area to enable the selection of various routes for the new bridge at Tabulam.

  • Presentation on urban design and architecture at the risk management workshop and value management workshop held with the community representatives.

  • Urban design strategy including the Landscape character and visual impact assessment for the preferred four route options including preliminary urban design and landscape concepts for the four route options.

  • Investigations and concepts for the interpretation of the historic bridge for community consultation including reuse of part of the bridge structure.

  • Presentation on urban design, architecture and interpretation of the heritage bridge at a community consultation forum.

  • Urban design strategy including the landscape concept design and Landscape character and visual impact assessment for the preferred option to support the Review of environmental factors.

  • Detailed design documentation for the project including further development of the urban and landscape design and in particular in regards to the interpretation of the existing historic bridge.

PAADesign also prepared an interpretation strategy and
